A ‘lekker’ festive season at Leydsdorp Hotel | iinfo TZANEEN

Leydsdorp Kapiri Hills is home to some of the best kept secrets in the world. The sleepy little town has started awakening and is going through a process of becoming a provincial heritage site.

Time has seemingly stood still in this former mining town, rich in history of Kruger Gold, tales of wildlife and handed-down fables. Leydsdorp is choosing the festive season 2017 to come alive and show what it's got – after years of lying dormant.

For the December dates surrounding three public holidays, the Leydsdorp Hotel has lined up quite a programme. The first is a dance ("Opskop'') on Friday, 15 December from 19:00. The dance and dinner included are R120 per person.

Couples (or two people to share) who want to extend their visit to spill over to 16 December, can opt for the package deal of dinner and dance, bed and breakfast for R990 for two. Hanging around Leydsdorp makes a visit to the big old baobab almost inevitable. If the holiday fever renders one lazy and inactive, sipping wine while listening to interesting tales about your surroundings, is a viable option!

Next: Christmas! Visitors can drive out for Christmas lunch buffet from 12:00 to 15:00 on the 25th at R200 per person, or once again, choose to arrive on Sunday, 24 December, have dinner and wake up in Leydsdorp on Christmas day to peacefully prepare for Christmas dinner. The latter option is offered at R1190 for two sharing.

The very last party of the year is another possibility for locals and visitor. Arrive at Leydsdorp on Sunday, 31 December to enjoy the surroundings until it is time for Old Year's Dance and dinner. It might be wise to make use of available accommodation after the excitement, dancing and bubbly connected to an Old Year/New Year party.

If the choice is dinner and dance, bed and breakfast, the offer is R1090 for two. (There are no single rooms – all rooms to be shared.) Per single person in a room the cost is R880.

Bookings are essential, says Ms Dawn Bouwer from the Leydsdorp Hotel. The contact details are 082 920 2803 or email leydsdorpkapiri@gmail.com, or kodri@global.co.za
