North-West University Botanical Garden | iinfo TZANEEN

The Botanical Garden was originally created in the 1960’s for the use of the plants for learning and research purposes. Later by 1982 the garden was opened to the public after the garden was upgraded and developed by different personnel of the NWU. At the moment the Botanical Garden is estimated to have a span of almost 3 hectares. The most inhabitants of plant species are indigenous to South Africa but a small amount of exotic plant species is also situated in the garden. With the plants that are in the Botanical Garden there are also a lot of different animals that calls the Garden their home. Mammals, birds, amphibians and fish are the inhabitants of the garden besides the different plant species.

There are a lot of man-made structures that made it possible for the wide range of plants and animals to co-exist in this environment. With an annual rainfall of approximately 507mm according to the information gathered from a climate website Potchefstroom is an ideal area where plants can grow. Potchefstroom also has the privilege to have the Mooi River running through it.
