The history of the North-West University all begins in 2004 when the three parties melted together to for the North-West University. Known as the University of North-West, Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education and the Sebokeng Campus of Vista University these are the establishments that melted together.
There are a lot of tourist attractions on the different campuses of the NWU but here at the Potchefstroom campus (almost 147 Years) the different attraction is :
Totius Statue
A statue was erected in remembrance of the great Poet Jacob Daniël du Toit normally known as Totius. The statue was placed at “Wasgoedspruit” initially and then relocated to the North-West University Campus after the statue was refurbished. This statue gave honour to him as well as to the other great writers and poets that the North West has delivered. In 2015 the Totius statue was once again relocated due to some cultural unrest in the country at that time. The new house of the statue is at the “Gereformeerde kerke in Suid –Afrika” property where the statue is till this day.
